Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb invites U.S. development finance team to identify bankable investment opportunities in Pakistan
WASHINGTON, D.C.: Pakistan has sought expedited support from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to accelerate private sector-led investment in strategic sectors, with Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb inviting a DFC delegation to visit the country and identify bankable projects.
During a meeting with DFC representatives in Washington, D.C., Aurangzeb outlined Pakistan’s investment priorities and called for closer collaboration to support commercially viable projects that can drive sustainable economic growth and attract foreign capital.
The finance minister urged the DFC to fast-track support for investment opportunities in the energy, information technology (IT), infrastructure, minerals, food and agriculture sectors, describing them as key pillars of Pakistan’s long-term economic development strategy.
Focus on priority sectors
Aurangzeb noted that the DFC’s strategic investment focus closely aligns with Pakistan’s development agenda, particularly in sectors such as ports, telecommunications, information technology, energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and supply chain development.
He emphasised that enhanced cooperation with the U.S. development finance institution could help mobilise private investment, strengthen infrastructure and create new employment opportunities.
Invitation to visit Pakistan
To deepen engagement, the finance minister invited a DFC delegation to visit Pakistan to identify bankable investment opportunities and engage with relevant government institutions as well as private sector stakeholders.
He said the visit would help develop commercially viable business plans and accelerate the implementation of investment projects across priority sectors.
Proposal for DFC presence in Pakistan
The meeting also explored the possibility of establishing a DFC presence in Pakistan to facilitate closer coordination with investors, businesses and development partners.
Both sides discussed ways to strengthen institutional cooperation and improve access to development finance for projects that support Pakistan’s economic transformation.
Enhancing Pakistan-U.S. economic ties
Discussions further covered future engagement with U.S. congressional delegations to promote stronger economic cooperation and expand bilateral investment opportunities between Pakistan and the United States.
The meeting forms part of the government’s broader strategy to attract greater foreign direct investment, strengthen public-private partnerships and mobilise international financing for infrastructure and other high-impact sectors of the economy.
