Islamabad, March 5, 2026: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ms. Jane Marriott CMG OBE, at the Finance Division on Thursday to discuss Pakistan’s macroeconomic outlook, economic reforms, and bilateral economic cooperation.
During the meeting, Senator Aurangzeb briefed the High Commissioner on Pakistan’s proactive measures to manage regional economic risks, including the formation of a high-level committee comprising key federal ministries and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The committee monitors supply chains, price movements, and potential disruptions in energy commodities, such as petroleum, crude oil, coal, and gas, while assessing broader impacts on inflation, external accounts, and financial stability.
The Finance Minister highlighted that Pakistan maintains adequate reserves and supply arrangements and is implementing scenario planning, sensitivity analyses, and energy conservation measures in coordination with provincial authorities to ensure market stability.
Senator Aurangzeb also provided an update on Pakistan’s ongoing economic reform agenda under the IMF program, emphasizing structural reforms in tax policy, revenue mobilization, governance, and institutional transparency. He noted that macroeconomic indicators are showing signs of stabilization, with 3.7% economic growth in the first quarter, supported by large-scale manufacturing and resilient agriculture.
The High Commissioner welcomed Pakistan’s reform initiatives and expressed the United Kingdom’s continued support for macroeconomic stability, private sector engagement, and investment promotion. Discussions also highlighted the importance of investor confidence in mining, minerals, and resource-rich regions.
Senator Aurangzeb reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to policy consistency, good governance, and creating a conducive investment environment, while both sides agreed to strengthen Pakistan-UK economic cooperation and maintain close coordination on development priorities.
