Finance minister says community-led healthcare investment can expand access to specialised care and strengthen Pakistan’s human capital.
KARACHI: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has highlighted the role of private institutions and community-led initiatives in expanding access to quality healthcare and reducing pressure on Pakistan’s public health system.
The finance minister, accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, attended the inauguration of the Cardiac Wing of Saifee Hospital at the Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah University Auditorium in North Nazimabad, Karachi, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance.
Aurangzeb appreciated the establishment of the new cardiac facility, describing it as an important step towards providing timely and high-quality cardiac care closer to patients’ homes.
He particularly praised the facility’s state-of-the-art catheterisation laboratories and advanced diagnostic and interventional capabilities, saying they represented the standard of healthcare that the people of Karachi deserved.
Healthcare investment strengthens economy
The finance minister said a hospital’s impact extends beyond its buildings and medical equipment, stressing that the expertise, dedication and compassion of doctors, nurses and support staff ultimately determine the quality of patient care.
He appreciated the efforts of the community, hospital management and other stakeholders involved in establishing the new facility.
According to Aurangzeb, partnerships combining community initiatives with world-class medical expertise could provide an important model for the development of Pakistan’s healthcare sector.
He also acknowledged the Bohra community’s longstanding tradition of community service, particularly its contributions to social welfare and public service initiatives across Pakistan.
The minister commended the community’s continued efforts to improve access to healthcare and contribute to the wider wellbeing of society.
Healthy population key to economic resilience
Aurangzeb said healthcare should not be viewed merely as a social expenditure but as an investment in Pakistan’s most valuable national asset — its people.
He noted that a healthier population contributes to higher productivity, stronger human capital and greater economic resilience.
The finance minister further said initiatives based on community service and a commitment to humanity demonstrated how collective efforts could create a lasting positive impact on society.
He expressed appreciation for the dedication behind the establishment of the Cardiac Wing and its potential to provide specialised cardiac services to people in Karachi for years to come.
Aurangzeb also commended the hospital management, medical professionals and all other stakeholders involved in the project.
He expressed hope that the new Cardiac Wing would develop into a centre of excellence in Karachi and set a standard that other healthcare institutions across Pakistan could aspire to achieve.
