Finance Minister Aurangzeb

Islamabad, March 9, 2026 – Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, on Monday reassured that Pakistan’s energy supply remains stable and well-managed, despite heightened volatility in global energy markets caused by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The statement was made during a meeting of the Committee to Monitor Petrol Prices in the Wake of the Emerging Situation in the Region, chaired by Senator Aurangzeb. The committee, established by the Prime Minister, reviews national energy preparedness and assesses the country’s ability to manage disruptions in fuel supply.

According to an official release, the committee reviewed petroleum product stock levels, ongoing import arrangements, and supply chain logistics. Members were briefed on shipments currently en route and additional cargoes being arranged to strengthen national reserves.

“Petroleum stocks remain at comfortable levels and supply chains are functioning smoothly, with multiple cargoes and import arrangements in place to ensure continuity of supply,” the release stated.

The meeting also covered recent trends in global crude and refined petroleum product prices, with authorities noting significant fluctuations due to international developments. The committee discussed scenario planning and monitoring of international markets to ensure domestic energy security and economic stability.

Logistical and operational arrangements for crude imports, refinery operations, and maritime transportation were also reviewed. Authorities highlighted steps being taken to facilitate cargo movements and maintain uninterrupted refinery operations.

In addition, targeted energy conservation and demand management measures were evaluated to reduce pressure on fuel imports. Measures include efficient fuel consumption, operational adjustments, and public sector initiatives, which could result in meaningful savings while supporting the economy.

The committee also coordinated with provincial governments to ensure effective monitoring of petroleum product availability and prevent disruptions at retail petrol pumps. An integrated monitoring dashboard is being developed to provide real-time visibility of stock levels nationwide.

Senator Aurangzeb emphasized that the government’s top priority remains uninterrupted fuel availability, stating that the committee will continue daily monitoring of international energy markets, domestic stocks, and supply chains to enable timely policy responses.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ali Pervaiz Malik (Petroleum), Rana Tanveer Hussain (National Food Security & Research), Jam Kamal Khan (Commerce), Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhary (Maritime Affairs), and Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, along with federal secretaries and senior officials from relevant ministries.

“Pakistan is well-prepared to face global energy challenges, and supply chains will remain uninterrupted during this evolving situation,” Aurangzeb added.
