Australia have named its provisional 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be held in Sri Lanka and India.
The squad will be captained by Mitchell Marsh and features the return of key players Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, and Cooper Connolly, who missed Australia’s recent T20 series against India.
Provisional Australian T20 World Cup Squad:
• Mitchell Marsh (c)
• Xavier Bartlett
• Cooper Connolly
• Pat Cummins
• Tim David
• Cameron Green
• Nathan Ellis
• Josh Hazlewood
• Travis Head
• Josh Inglis
• Matthew Kuhnemann
• Glenn Maxwell
• Matthew Short
• Marcus Stoinis
• Adam Zampa
The squad is spin-heavy, with Adam Zampa, Matthew Kuhnemann, Cooper Connolly, and all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Short included to adapt to subcontinental conditions.
George Bailey, Chair of Selectors, said the panel focused on assembling a group capable of performing across varied conditions in Sri Lanka and India, though some players are yet to be fully fit.
“Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David are tracking well and we are confident they will be available for the World Cup,” Bailey said.
The selectors have opted against a left-arm fast bowler, following Mitchell Starc’s retirement from T20 cricket and Spencer Johnson’s injury. Right-arm fast bowler Xavier Bartlett has been included in place of a like-for-like replacement for Ben Dwarshuis.
A separate squad for the three-game T20 series against Pakistan ahead of the World Cup is expected to be announced later.
Australia’s preliminary squad highlights a strategic balance of batting, spin, and pace, aimed at giving the team the best chance to succeed in subcontinental conditions.
