Australia extended their unbeaten streak in the five-match T20I series with a thrilling three-wicket win over West Indies in the fourth T20I at Warner Park, Basseterre, on Sunday.
Chasing 206, Australia sealed the match with four balls to spare, taking a dominant 4-0 lead in the T20I series.
Despite losing captain Mitchell Marsh for a duck early in the innings, explosive performances from Glenn Maxwell (47 off 18) and Josh Inglis (51 off 30) shifted momentum in Australia’s favor. Although the middle order faltered briefly, Cameron Green once again displayed composure with a composed half-century — his third of the T20I series — to guide Australia home in the final over.
Maxwell was named Player of the Match and praised the fearless batting display and team adaptability. He said it was enjoyable to bat up the order and expressed pride in Australia’s exciting brand of cricket throughout the T20I series.
Earlier, West Indies posted 205/9 after batting first, with Sherfane Rutherford top-scoring with 31. Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, and Rovman Powell also made brief contributions. For Australia, Adam Zampa took three wickets, while Bartlett, Hardie, and Abbott chipped in with two each. Nathan Ellis delivered an economical four-over spell without any wickets.
Mitchell Marsh praised his side’s composure under pressure, crediting the bowlers for holding their nerve. He said 230 looked like a par score on the surface and emphasized the importance of staying calm in T20I cricket.
West Indies captain Shai Hope admitted fielding lapses cost them the game. He highlighted Jediah Blades’ performance with the ball and emphasized the need for sharper execution in the final T20I.
The fifth and final match of the T20I series is scheduled for Monday, July 28, at the same venue.
