Australia showcased their depth and dominance with a 3-wicket victory over West Indies in the fifth and final T20I, sealing a clean 5-0 sweep. Chasing 171, Australia reached the target in just 17 overs, finishing at 173/7 with 18 balls to spare.

This emphatic result not only underscores Australia’s white-ball strength but also sends a strong message ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India. Despite the one-sided scoreline, both teams displayed glimpses of brilliance that could serve them well in the global tournament.

Australia’s Bench Strength Shines Bright

Even without their frontline pacers – Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood – Australia’s backup bowlers stepped up. Ben Dwarshuis led the attack with 3 wickets in the final match, ending with eight in the series. Supporting acts from Nathan Ellis, Sean Abbott, Aaron Hardie, and Xavier Bartlett prove Australia’s bowling depth is tournament-ready.

Zampa’s Spin Wizardry

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa remains Australia’s trump card in T20s. In his 100th T20I appearance, he delivered another masterclass, taking 1/20 in three overs. With Indian pitches favoring spin, Zampa’s role will be crucial in 2026. His consistency sets him apart as one of the most reliable bowlers in the game.

New Batting Stars Emerge

Australia appears to have found its next generation of power-hitters. Cameron Green scored a series-topping 205 runs, while Tim David (132) and Mitch Owen (125) showed explosive potential. Their form adds firepower to Australia’s middle order, long reliant on stalwarts like Glenn Maxwell.

West Indies’ Batting Still a Threat

Despite the whitewash, West Indies showed flashes of brilliance with the bat. Captain Shai Hope, Sherfane Rutherford, Brandon King, and Shimron Hetmyer all contributed to competitive totals. If they fire in unison, the Caribbean side remains a dangerous T20 unit.

Spin Could Define West Indies’ World Cup Run

With subcontinental conditions in India, West Indies need more from their spinners. Akeal Hosein managed only four wickets and was expensive. Gudakesh Motie had limited exposure but is expected to play a bigger role moving forward.

Final Verdict

Australia’s 5-0 win over West Indies reinforces their tag as T20 World Cup favorites, while the Windies must fine-tune their bowling attack to complement their explosive batting.
