Australia is set to tour Zimbabwe for a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series in September, marking a historic return after more than 10 years. The series was announced by Zimbabwe Cricket, adding to an already busy international schedule that includes a T20I series against India in July.
The ODI series will begin on September 15, followed by the second and third matches on September 18 and 20. All matches are scheduled to start at 09:30 local time and will be played at the iconic Harare Sports Club.
This tour holds significant importance as it will be Australia’s first ODI visit to Zimbabwe since 2014, when both teams last met on Zimbabwean soil during a triangular series that also featured South Africa. The upcoming series is expected to attract strong global attention and provide competitive cricket for both sides.
For Zimbabwe, the series is a crucial part of preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which the country will co-host alongside South Africa and Namibia. Facing a top-tier team like Australia will help the hosts assess their squad depth and performance under pressure.
Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni expressed optimism about the tour, emphasizing its value for team development and fan engagement. He highlighted that hosting high-profile teams is vital for improving the country’s cricket standards and building momentum ahead of major international events.
Fans are expected to turn out in large numbers to witness elite cricket action, as Zimbabwe continues to strengthen its position on the global cricket stage. The series promises to deliver exciting contests and valuable exposure for emerging talent.
