Committee examines ministry concerns, policy clauses and implementation framework as consultations continue on Pakistan’s new auto sector policy.

The government has stepped up efforts to finalize the Auto Policy 2026-31, with a high-level committee reviewing the draft policy and proposed implementation framework in detail.

A meeting of the committee on Auto and Auto Parts Manufacturing Policy 2026-31 was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar. The session focused on reviewing the draft policy and moving the approval process forward in line with the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, along with officials from relevant ministries, divisions and organizations, participated in the meeting.

During the session, the committee conducted a detailed clause-by-clause review of the concerns submitted by different ministries and relevant government organizations regarding the proposed Auto Policy 2026-31.

The participants also examined several provisions of the draft policy and discussed how its implementation framework could be structured. The review covered recommendations and proposals submitted by government departments and other stakeholders involved in the policy process.

The detailed consultation is aimed at addressing outstanding issues before the government moves toward finalizing the new policy for the automotive and auto parts manufacturing sectors.

The committee agreed that further clause-by-clause discussions would be required before the policy can be finalized. Consultations between the relevant ministries, divisions and organizations will therefore continue during the next meeting.

The Auto Policy 2026-31 is expected to provide the policy framework for Pakistan’s automotive and auto parts manufacturing sector for the coming years. The ongoing review indicates that the government is seeking broader inter-ministerial consultation before completing the final draft.

The next round of discussions will focus on the remaining provisions and recommendations, with the committee continuing its review process to reach a consensus on the final policy framework.
