Babar Azam credits hard work for stellar century in Pakistan win

Rawalpindi, November 15, 2025 – Pakistan captain and star batter Babar Azam attributed his recent success to perseverance, hard work, and self-belief after scoring a brilliant century to secure an emphatic eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second day-night ODI at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Speaking after the victory, Azam said, “Despite challenges, I continued to work hard and maintained my confidence. Allah has rewarded me for my efforts.” He also acknowledged the unwavering support of fans, stating it motivated him during tough times.

Century Lifts Pakistan to Victory

Azam scored an unbeaten 102, marking his 20th ODI century and first international hundred since August 2023. His innings helped Pakistan chase down Sri Lanka’s target of 289 with ease, following the first match win by six runs, giving Pakistan an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The final match is scheduled for Sunday.

Coming to the crease after opener Saim Ayub fell for 33 in the 10th over, Azam displayed his signature cover drives, anchoring the innings perfectly in line with the team’s objectives. He admitted he had struggled to convert starts into big scores previously, but said the century significantly boosted his confidence.

Advising aspiring cricketers, Azam emphasized, “Consistency is key to success in sports. The support of family, friends, coaches, and teammates has been invaluable.” He reiterated his focus on cricket, preferring to respond to criticism through performance rather than words.

Sri Lanka batter Sadeera Samarawickrama praised Azam’s innings, calling him a “world-class player” and highlighting how the century turned the game in Pakistan’s favor. He also complimented Pakistan’s security arrangements, ensuring a safe and focused playing environment. Discussing the bowling, he noted that the pitch aided spinners like Abrar Ahmed and Muhammad Nawaz, while Charith Asalanka created chances that went unconverted.

Samarawickrama concluded that the wicket was “good for spinners in the first part of the game,” reflecting the challenges faced by batters on the pitch.
