Global music sensation Bad Bunny has officially joined the cast of Toy Story 5 in a surprise cameo appearance. The Puerto Rican rapper and singer will voice a character named Pepperoni Slice in the upcoming animated sequel.
The unexpected casting decision reportedly came after director Andrew Stanton discovered videos and photos of Bad Bunny playing with Woody and Buzz Lightyear toys during the pandemic.
The revelation has quickly excited both Disney and Pixar fans, especially those who have followed the Grammy-winning artist’s growing involvement in Hollywood projects.
Director Explains How the Casting Happened
Speaking at the UK launch event for Toy Story 5, director Andrew Stanton explained how the idea to cast Bad Bunny came together.
“They kind of come up in the moment when you’re down to these one-line characters,” Andrew said. “You find some time to think, ‘Who would be perfect for this?’”
The filmmaker added that the creative team learned Bad Bunny was a major fan of the beloved animated franchise during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Over the pandemic, we found out that Bad Bunny was a huge Toy Story fan,” Stanton explained.
Pandemic Videos Inspired Pixar Team
According to Andrew Stanton, Bad Bunny frequently shared videos of himself playing with Woody and Buzz Lightyear dolls while staying at home during the pandemic.
“He was making videos with his Toy Story dolls during the pandemic,” the director revealed. “He was playing with his Buzz and Woody dolls, and he was doing all of these videos. And so we were like, ‘Maybe… it wouldn’t hurt to ask him.’ And he said yes.”
The story behind the casting has added a personal and heartfelt touch to the upcoming Pixar sequel.
Bad Bunny Expands Hollywood Career
It has also been teased that Bad Bunny’s character could appear as one of the “forgotten toys” in the film. While details about the role remain limited, fans are already eager to see the music icon in the Toy Story universe.
The rapper continues to build a successful acting career alongside his music achievements. He previously appeared in movies including Bullet Train and Caught Stealing.
Bad Bunny recently made Super Bowl history as the first solo Spanish-language halftime headliner, further cementing his status as one of the world’s biggest entertainment stars.
