Sharjah, October 2, 2025 – Bangladesh secured a four-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the opening match of the three-match T20I series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

The win gave Bangladesh an early 1-0 lead, setting the tone for the remainder of the series.

Batting first, Afghanistan posted a total of 151 for nine in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a positive start, their innings was hampered by regular dismissals. Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a fighting knock of 40 runs, while veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi added 38 to keep Afghanistan afloat. The Bangladesh bowlers, however, kept their composure, with Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Rishad Hossain each striking twice at crucial moments.

In reply, Bangladesh got off to a commanding start thanks to an outstanding 109-run opening stand between Tanzid Hasan and Pervez Hossain Emon. Tanzid impressed with a well-crafted 51, while Emon top-scored with 54, setting a strong foundation for the chase. Even though Rashid Khan threatened to change the game with a brilliant four-wicket haul for just 18 runs in four overs, Bangladesh maintained their momentum.

The middle order faced some late pressure after quick wickets, but the openers’ contribution had already tilted the game in Bangladesh’s favor. Eventually, they crossed the finish line in 18.4 overs, sealing the victory with four wickets in hand.

With this win, Bangladesh take the upper hand in the series and will look to wrap up the contest in the second T20I, while Afghanistan aim to stage a comeback.
