Bangladesh Penalized for Slow Over Rate vs. England in CWC23

Bangladesh’s performance in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 (CWC23) faced a setback as they were fined five percent of their match fee due to a slow over-rate during their clash with England in Dharamsala.

This incident occurred during Bangladesh’s second Cricket World Cup match on October 10, 2023, in Dharamsala. The team, led by Shakib Al Hasan, was found to be one over short of the required rate, even after considering time allowances.

The sanctions were enforced by the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, with Javagal Srinath overseeing the proceedings.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, players face a five percent fine of their match fees for each over not bowled within the allotted time.

Shakib promptly admitted to the offense and accepted the proposed penalty, negating the need for a formal hearing.

The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Paul Wilson, with support from third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena.

Bangladesh faced a significant defeat of 137 runs against England in their second Cricket World Cup match in Dharamsala. They are now gearing up for their upcoming game against New Zealand in Chennai.
