Lahore, November 25, 2025 – Bangladesh is set to start direct flights to Pakistan next month, marking a major step in strengthening connectivity and trade between the two countries. High Commissioner of Bangladesh Iqbal Hussain Khan announced that Mahan Air is likely to operate three weekly flights between Karachi and Dhaka, enhancing both business and tourism ties.

Speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), the High Commissioner highlighted that the visa process has been simplified. Visas will now be issued within three to four days based on a joint recommendation from LCCI and the Bangladesh Honorary Consulate in Lahore, making travel faster and easier for business and leisure visitors.

The High Commissioner was warmly received by LCCI President Faheemur Rehman Saigol, along with Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, EC Member Shouban Akhtar, former EC Member Naeem Hanif, and Mahfujol Hassan from the Bangladesh High Commission.

Strengthening Trade and Economic Ties

LCCI President Faheemur Rehman Saigol emphasized the historical and cultural ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, calling the two nations “brotherly countries sharing a common heritage.” He noted that bilateral trade, currently around $700 million, has the potential to grow to $3 billion in the coming years.

Saigol highlighted key opportunities, including:

• Rice exports from Pakistan to Bangladesh

• Guidance from Bangladesh in the garments sector

• Collaboration in IT, automobiles, textiles, and other industries

He added that the launch of direct flights would further boost trade relations, and LCCI is prepared to provide full support to the Bangladesh High Commission.

High Commissioner’s Remarks

The High Commissioner invited LCCI to lead a trade delegation to Bangladesh, which was positively received. He also pointed out significant trade opportunities, including the export of rice from Pakistan and fresh pineapples from Bangladesh, as well as potential growth in textiles and ready-made garments.

On the logistics front, he confirmed that a dedicated direct cargo service between Pakistan and Bangladesh would soon be launched, complementing the existing cargo operations that began last December.

Education and Tourism Cooperation

In addition to trade, the High Commissioner encouraged collaboration in the education sector, announcing that the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan will send a delegation to Bangladesh, comprising representatives from twelve universities, to attract more Bangladeshi students to study in Pakistan.

He also highlighted the tourism sector as a promising area for collaboration, stressing the shared culture, history, and values of the two nations and describing Pakistan and Bangladesh as closely connected and united as one community.
