Hosts complete dominant 2–0 series win after 78-run victory in Sylhet Test
Bangladesh national cricket team completed a dominant 2–0 Test series sweep over Pakistan national cricket team after defeating the visitors by 78 runs in the second Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Chasing a challenging target of 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 358 on the final day, as Bangladesh secured a comprehensive win to seal a rare series whitewash at home.
Pakistan resumed day five after a brief rain interruption with Mohammad Rizwan and Sajid Khan adding quick runs and stitching together a useful partnership that took the total past the 350-mark. However, the stand was broken when Taijul Islam dismissed Sajid Khan for 28.
Shortly after, Shoriful Islam removed Rizwan for a brilliant 94 off 166 deliveries, an innings featuring 10 boundaries. Taijul Islam then wrapped up the innings by dismissing Khurram Shahzad for a duck, completing a six-wicket haul.
Earlier in the chase, Pakistan lost both openers early before Babar Azam and Shan Masood stabilised the innings with a crucial partnership. Babar scored 47 while Shan made a composed 71, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.
Despite resistance from Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, Bangladesh’s bowling attack maintained pressure throughout. Taijul Islam finished as the standout performer with a decisive spell that repeatedly broke Pakistan’s momentum.
In the first innings, Bangladesh were bowled out for 278 despite a top-order collapse, with Litton Das playing a commanding knock of 126 to rescue the hosts. Pakistan responded with 232, giving Bangladesh a 46-run lead.
Pakistan’s second innings effort saw contributions from Babar Azam, Rizwan, and Salman Ali Agha, but Bangladesh’s disciplined attack ensured they remained in control across all five days.
The result marks a significant achievement for Bangladesh, who outplayed Pakistan in both matches to complete a historic series sweep.
