Cabinet Division confirms May 26–28 public holidays as Eid-ul-Adha to be observed on May 27

The government of Pakistan has announced three public holidays for Eid-ul-Adha 2026, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday.

The notification stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved holidays on May 26, 27 and 28, 2026 (Tuesday to Thursday) on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee had earlier announced that Eid-ul-Adha would be observed on May 27 after confirming the sighting of the Zilhaj moon.

The announcement was made following a meeting held at the Pakistan Meteorological Department in Karachi, chaired by Maulana Azad.

Addressing a press conference, the committee said credible testimonies of moon sighting were received from several parts of the country, confirming that 1st Zilhaj 1447 AH fell on May 18, 2026.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice,” commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah, a test of faith that was ultimately replaced with a ram.

The festival is traditionally marked by Eid prayers, family gatherings, and charitable distribution of sacrificial meat among relatives, friends, and the underprivileged.

Authorities are expected to issue additional security and administrative arrangements in major cities ahead of the extended holiday period.
