Salary negotiations involving Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are reportedly putting the future of a potential Barbie sequel at risk.

Margot Robbie is reportedly standing firm on her worth as negotiations over a possible Barbie sequel continue, with salary discussions said to be creating uncertainty around the highly anticipated follow-up.

Reports earlier this month suggested that the creative team behind the 2023 blockbuster had begun discussions with Robbie and Ryan Gosling about returning for a second instalment. However, negotiations over compensation have reportedly complicated the project’s progress.

Robbie, who starred in and produced the first live-action Barbie film, is said to have earned around $50 million from acting in and producing the original movie, according to media reports.

Sources familiar with the discussions reportedly claim that the current offers for Robbie and her co-stars do not match the level of compensation involved in the first film.

The negotiations have reportedly included potential profit-sharing arrangements, with principal cast members offered a share of profits if the sequel reaches certain box-office targets.

However, The New York Times reported that Warner Bros. Discovery chief executive David Zaslav considered some of the proposed terms, including the point at which profit participation would begin, too generous to approve.
