Lamine Yamal scores twice and provides an assist as Barcelona extend their perfect league record with another emphatic victory
Barcelona continued their perfect start to the La Liga season with a commanding 5-0 victory over Valencia on Sunday, with Lamine Yamal scoring twice and setting up another goal.
Yamal leads Barcelona’s attacking display
Yamal opened the scoring after just six minutes, producing a clever finish from Fermin Lopez’s pass.
The youngster thought he had scored again later in the first half, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Yamal soon turned provider, creating an opportunity for Lopez, who doubled Barcelona’s advantage with a left-footed strike.
Barcelona maintained their dominance after the interval, with Yamal and Lopez combining once again to set up Raphinha for a simple tap-in early in the second half.
Pedri then added Barcelona’s fourth with a low finish before Yamal completed his brace six minutes from full time.
The emphatic victory means Barcelona have scored 17 goals in their opening four league matches, underlining their attacking form at the start of the campaign.
Valencia, meanwhile, have collected just one point from their first four matches.
Alaves move into second place
Deportivo Alaves climbed into a surprise second position after Lucas Boye scored a hat-trick in a 5-2 home victory over Osasuna.
The result secured Alaves’ best-ever start to a La Liga season.
Mariano Diaz scored his third goal of the campaign, while Pablo Ibanez also found the net against his former club.
Osasuna’s goals both came from Ante Budimir, but they were not enough to prevent a heavy defeat.
Sevilla held by Espanyol
Sevilla were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw away to Espanyol despite playing with 10 men for more than 30 minutes following Arouna Sangante’s dismissal.
Espanyol also had a goal ruled out for offside before Lucas Stassin put Sevilla ahead with a volley five minutes from the end of normal time.
However, Marcos Fernandez rescued a point for the hosts by scrambling the ball home from close range in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
Malaga and Levante play out goalless draw
Malaga and Levante played out a 0-0 draw, with Malaga still searching for its first victory since returning to the top flight.
Malaga had an opportunity to claim all three points from the penalty spot, but Chupe’s effort was saved by Levante goalkeeper Mat Ryan.
