Bitcoin gains 10.44% in a week but remains nearly 40% below its August 2025 level.
Bitcoin (BTC) edged higher on Thursday, reaching $69,372.20 on August 20, 2026, as the world’s largest cryptocurrency extended its recent short-term recovery.
According to the latest data, Bitcoin gained $141.87, or 0.20%, from its previous closing price of $69,230.33 on August 19.
Bitcoin gains 10.44% in seven days
Bitcoin has recorded a significant increase over the past week.
The cryptocurrency was valued at $62,815.70 on August 14. Its price rose to $63,061.68 on August 15 before edging down to $62,828.40 on August 16.
Bitcoin then resumed its upward movement, reaching $64,237.80 on August 17 and $64,589.42 on August 18.
The cryptocurrency recorded its strongest daily gain during the period on August 19, when its price jumped by $4,640.91, or 6.70%, to $69,230.33.
From August 14 to August 20, Bitcoin therefore increased by $6,556.50, representing a 10.44% gain.
Bitcoin up 4.71% over 30 days
Bitcoin has also posted a positive return over the past month.
On July 21, 2026, Bitcoin was priced at $66,250.59. At $69,372.20 on August 20, the cryptocurrency had gained $3,121.61, equivalent to a 4.71% increase.
The monthly gain indicates that Bitcoin has recovered above its late-July level following the stronger price momentum seen in August.
Bitcoin remains sharply below August 2025 level
Despite the recent recovery, Bitcoin remains substantially below its level a year earlier.
On August 20, 2025, Bitcoin was valued at $114,600.57.
Compared with its current price of $69,372.20, the cryptocurrency is down $45,228.37, representing a decline of approximately 39.47% year-on-year.
Short-term recovery continues
The latest figures show a notable improvement in Bitcoin’s price over the past seven days, driven particularly by the sharp gain recorded on August 19.
However, the cryptocurrency’s price remains well below its August 2025 level, highlighting the extent of the longer-term decline despite the recent recovery.
