The buzz surrounding the identity of Lady Deadpool in the latest installment of the Deadpool franchise has been officially settled.
Fans can now confirm that the role is portrayed by none other than Blake Lively, the wife of Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds.
On Friday, July 26, Lively took to Instagram to share the news, revealing that her involvement in the role was almost fated. In her post, the Gossip Girl alum recounted her early days and how she first learned about Deadpool from Reynolds while filming The Green Lantern in 2010.
Lively’s post reads, “In 2010, I was on Gossip Girl and gearing up to film The Green Lantern with my kind Canadian costar vancityreynolds. He introduced me, taikawaititi, and our other costars to the idea of deadpoolmovie for the first time.” She added, “Just before all this, robliefeld drew an unmasked Lady Deadpool for the first time. She attached a screenshot of a post by Rob Liefeld, the Deadpool comic writer and artist, who revealed that the character was inspired by Lively. Liefeld mentioned, “If ever we are blessed with Lady Deadpool on screen, I’m pretty certain Ms. Lively will have some say in the casting,” noting that the character’s creation had an element of tribute to Lively’s role as Serena Van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl.
Lively shared that she only saw Liefeld’s post in 2022, just before her role in Deadpool & Wolverine began filming. “The universe has such a magical sense of humor sometimes,” she mused in her caption.
