BYD, the renowned Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has introduced a refreshed version of its best-selling Dolphin electric hatchback.
Exterior and Interior Enhancements
The refreshed BYD Dolphin, originally launched earlier this year, now boasts minor yet impactful exterior updates. The front fascia features a redesigned lower grille, while the rear has been revamped with a new “BYD” logo replacing the previous “Build Your Dreams” text. The rear bumper and taillights have also undergone noticeable changes, contributing to a sleeker and more modern look.
Inside, the cabin retains its familiar ergonomic design. While no radical interior changes have been confirmed, BYD is expected to introduce updated features and technologies, aligning the Dolphin with the brand’s latest offerings.
Powertrain and Performance
A major highlight of the 2025 Dolphin is the addition of a more robust 130 kW (174 hp) electric motor, complementing the existing 70 kW (94 hp) and 150 kW (201 hp) motor options. This upgrade provides more flexibility for customers seeking enhanced performance.
All powertrain configurations continue to feature BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery technology, renowned for its safety and efficiency. The Dolphin’s range varies based on motor and battery configurations, offering 420 km to 520 km per charge.
While official figures for the updated model are yet to be revealed, industry experts anticipate similar or slightly improved range capabilities.
Sales Success and Market Position
The BYD Dolphin has solidified its place in the Chinese EV market as a top performer. In November 2024 alone, the model recorded an impressive 21,712 unit sales, bringing the year-to-date total to 176,560 units.
These figures underscore the Dolphin’s widespread popularity among eco-conscious consumers seeking affordable yet high-performing EVs.
As BYD continues to expand its global footprint and diversify its EV lineup, the refreshed Dolphin is expected to further strengthen its appeal.
With its balanced combination of performance, efficiency, and updated aesthetics, the 2025 BYD Dolphin is poised to remain a leading choice in the competitive electric hatchback segment.
