BYD Pakistan shares practical guidance on safe EV driving, parking, braking, charging, and flood precautions during heavy rainfall.
As monsoon rains continue to affect different parts of the country, BYD Pakistan has released a detailed safety guide explaining the appropriate water levels for driving electric vehicles (EVs).
The company highlighted how drivers should respond when encountering different flood depths and stressed that safety should always take priority over continuing a journey through standing water.
According to the guidance, water levels are divided into three categories: below the door sill, near the door sill, and above the door sill. Each level requires different precautions to minimise risks to both occupants and the vehicle.
When the water level is below the door sill, BYD says motorists may continue driving, but only at a slow and steady speed while maintaining forward movement until they have cleared the flooded section.
Drivers are also advised to tap the brakes repeatedly after exiting the water to help restore braking performance. Once safely parked, they should inspect the vehicle’s floorboards for any signs of water intrusion. If the floor is found to be wet, the company recommends visiting an authorised service centre for a thorough inspection.
If the water level is near the door sill, extra caution is required. Vehicles that are already parked should not be switched on.
Drivers who are already on the road should continue moving slowly without stopping, reversing, or turning off the vehicle while passing through the affected area. After reaching a safe location, the vehicle should be parked and inspected to determine whether any water has entered the cabin or other components.
For situations where the water level rises above the door sill, BYD advises drivers to evacuate immediately and move to higher ground.
The company strongly warns against attempting to restart a vehicle that has been flooded, as doing so may result in severe damage and create unnecessary safety risks.
In addition to the water-level recommendations, BYD Pakistan also shared general rainy-weather advice for EV owners.
The company emphasises never driving into water deeper than half the height of the vehicle’s tyres, regardless of road conditions. Furthermore, electric vehicles should only be charged in a dry and sheltered location during periods of heavy rainfall to ensure maximum safety.
With the latest advisory, BYD Pakistan aims to help EV owners make informed decisions during the monsoon season, encouraging cautious driving habits and timely vehicle inspections to reduce the risk of damage caused by flooding.
