BYD has officially introduced the 2026 M9 MPV, known locally in China as the BYD Xia, offering upgraded efficiency, enhanced technology, and a refreshed luxury-focused interior.
The new model is priced from 206,800 to 269,800 yuan (approximately $28,900–$37,700), with limited-time trade-in incentives pushing the starting price down to 196,800 yuan ($27,500).
The 2026 BYD M9 is a seven-seat, mid-to-large premium MPV powered by BYD’s latest fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid system. Buyers can choose between four trim levels, including two 100-km pure-electric range versions and two long-range variants now offering up to 218 km EV range, up from 180 km previously. Combined range reaches an impressive 1,163 km, making the M9 ideal for long-distance family and business travel.
Thanks to a larger Blade battery, the M9’s hybrid fuel consumption has improved to 4.9–5.0 L/100 km, further strengthening its position in China’s competitive plug-in hybrid MPV market.
Premium Design and Tech Upgrades
The exterior retains the signature “dragon-scale” grille, full-width headlights, and bold chrome accents. Higher trims include roof-mounted lidar, while standard features include dual power sliding doors, privacy glass, and Bluetooth/NFC key support. New paint options include Ink Bamboo Green, Glazed Purple-Gold, and Moon Shadow Black-Gold.
The cabin continues with a spacious 2+2+3 seating layout, offering features like ventilated and massaging front seats, reclining second-row captain chairs with leg rests, and a power-foldable third row. Cargo capacity ranges from 470 liters to 2,036 liters.
Interior technology is a standout, featuring:
15.6-inch DiLink 150 infotainment display
AI voice control with DeepSeek
26-inch W-HUD (top trim)
Optional 12.3-inch passenger screen and 15.6-inch rear entertainment display
Up to 28-speaker Dolby Atmos audio
50W wireless charging
PM2.5 filtration and fragrance system
Safety and Performance
All models feature BYD’s DiSus-C suspension with predictive road scanning to reduce motion sickness, plus TBC tire-burst control and VTOL external power output. The hybrid system combines a 1.5T engine (115 kW) and a 200 kW electric motor, achieving 0–100 km/h in 8.1–8.5 seconds.
Market Position
Competing with the Buick GL8 PHEV and Maxus MIFA 9 PHEV, the 2026 M9 stands out with longer pure-electric range, lower hybrid fuel use, and more advanced driver assistance tech.
With growing demand for electrified family MPVs, the updated BYD M9 strengthens the brand’s dominance in the premium hybrid segment — combining luxury comfort, long-range efficiency, and cutting-edge EV-tech in one compelling package.
