BYD’s ultra-luxury sedan spotted ahead of launch

The upcoming flagship, reportedly priced above 2 million yuan, features an upright front design, coach doors and roof-mounted LiDAR, while its powertrain and battery details remain undisclosed.

BYD’s luxury automotive brand Yangwang is preparing to introduce a new flagship sedan, with fresh spy photographs revealing important details about its exterior design ahead of its expected unveiling in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The model, currently known internally as HU, was recently spotted in China. Yangwang Sales Division General Manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed on October 21 that the vehicle would appear in the UAE, although the company has yet to disclose the official launch date or venue.

Upright Front Design and Premium Styling

Images published by Chinese automotive outlet Autohome reveal a distinctive front fascia featuring a tall, rectangular grille and vertically arranged split headlights. The design differs from the lower, more streamlined front end of the Yangwang U7 sedan.

Instead, the new model appears to draw inspiration from the imposing styling associated with the Yangwang U8 and U8L SUVs, giving the vehicle a more upright and formal appearance.

A LiDAR sensor mounted above the windshield is also visible in the photographs. However, its presence alone does not confirm the sedan’s final autonomous driving or driver-assistance capabilities.

The side profile indicates an elongated body, a relatively short front overhang and an extended rear section. Rear-hinged coach doors appear to be part of the design, reinforcing its luxury positioning. Earlier reports estimate the vehicle’s length at approximately 5,500 mm.

Reported Price Exceeds 2 Million Yuan

Chinese media reports suggest that the BYD Yangwang flagship sedan could carry a price exceeding 2,000,000 yuan, equivalent to approximately $299,600. This figure remains an estimate, as official pricing has not been announced.

If accurate, the price would position the vehicle above the JAC-Huawei Maextro S800, which starts at 728,000 yuan and reaches 1,018,000 yuan for its highest-priced version.

The sedan could therefore compete in an exclusive segment occupied by high-end luxury vehicles, including the Nio ET9 and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.

Solid-State Battery Technology Still Unconfirmed

Speculation has also connected the HU project with solid-state battery technology. However, Yangwang has not confirmed its battery chemistry, motor configuration, power output or suspension specifications.

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li previously indicated that the company intended to put a vehicle equipped with solid-state battery technology on the road in 2027, without identifying the model.

The upcoming sedan would expand Yangwang’s luxury lineup beyond the U7. More details about its performance, battery technology, official name and market availability are expected as the UAE unveiling approaches.
