Cambridge Begins Sharing Exam Answer Scripts with Students

CAIE

Cambridge International Education (CIE) has introduced a new initiative aimed at ensuring fairness and transparency in its examination system.

For the first time, Cambridge has started sending exam answer scripts back to students, allowing them to review their assessed work and better understand the grading process.

This development comes after last year’s decision by Cambridge to provide students with a detailed breakdown of marks for individual components of each paper.

Building on that step, the latest move offers candidates access to their actual scripts, creating a more open and accountable examination system.

Transparency Through Access to Scripts

The initiative, called “Access to Scripts,” is designed to give students a clear picture of how their papers were evaluated. By sharing scanned copies of their answer sheets, Cambridge enables candidates to see both their written responses and the assessment criteria used during marking.

This effort not only addresses long-standing concerns from students about fairness in grading but also provides them with valuable feedback on their performance.

Student Reactions to the New Policy

The results of the AS and A Level exams released on August 12 highlighted the significance of this change. While many students were pleased with their grades, others expressed dissatisfaction and raised questions about marking standards.

In previous years, such concerns often led to confusion and appeals, as students had no direct evidence of how their answers were evaluated.

With the implementation of this new system, students now have the opportunity to see their own scripts and verify the fairness of the grading process.

This move is expected to reduce disputes, increase trust in the examination system, and help students identify areas for academic improvement.

A Step Towards Fair Assessment

Education experts have welcomed Cambridge’s decision, calling it a positive shift towards fairness and accountability in global assessments.

By providing access to marked scripts, Cambridge not only strengthens its credibility but also empowers students to take a more active role in their learning journey.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in examination transparency, setting an example for other international education boards to follow. For Pakistani students and thousands worldwide, it ensures greater clarity in grading and reinforces the reliability of Cambridge qualifications.
