Toronto, June 22, 2025 — Canada have officially booked their place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka, after a dominant showing in the Americas Qualifiers.

The Canadian cricket team sealed qualification in emphatic fashion, registering their fifth consecutive victory in the tournament with a comprehensive win over the Bahamas.

In what was a one-sided affair, Canada bowled out Bahamas for just 57 runs, thanks to brilliant spells from Kaleem Sana and Shivam Sharma, both of whom claimed three wickets each. The chase was little more than a formality, as Dilpreet Bajwa hammered an unbeaten 36 off just 14 deliveries to see Canada home in only 5.3 overs. The victory not only extended their perfect run but also confirmed their qualification for the marquee 2026 event.

Canada, who also competed in the previous edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup hosted by the USA and West Indies, came into the Qualifiers as one of the front-runners. Under the captaincy of Nicholas Kirton, Canada launched their campaign with a massive 110-run victory over Bermuda. This was followed by a convincing 59-run win against the Cayman Islands and a 10-wicket rout of the Bahamas in their first encounter.

Their second match against the Cayman Islands, shortened to a five-over game due to weather, also went in Canada’s favour. They posted 82 runs in the allotted overs and secured a 42-run win, maintaining their unbeaten record.

With this performance, Canada now join an elite list of 10 teams already qualified for the 20-team T20 World Cup. These include co-hosts India and Sri Lanka, along with Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, United States, West Indies, Ireland, New Zealand, and Pakistan.

Canada’s qualification leaves just seven remaining slots to be filled through upcoming regional qualifiers. Two teams each from Europe and Africa, along with three teams from the Asia–East Asia Pacific Qualifier, will complete the tournament lineup.

The consistent performance of Canada across the Americas Qualifiers reaffirms their growing stature in the shorter format. With a place at the World Cup now secured, Canada will aim to continue building momentum ahead of the global spectacle in India and Sri Lanka next year.
