Bangladesh captain Litton Das has expressed strong confidence in his team’s preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, following an impressive comeback in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Ireland.
After dropping the opening match by 39 runs, Bangladesh bounced back in style to secure a 2-1 series victory in Chattogram, sealing wins by four and eight wickets.
Speaking after the decisive third T20I, Litton highlighted the team’s strategic experimentation and development across multiple roles. He emphasized that the squad — featuring several emerging talents — is “almost ready” for next year’s mega event.
“We have conducted a lot of experiments,” Litton noted, referring to tactical decisions such as handing the final over to Mohammad Saifuddin instead of seasoned pacer Mustafizur Rahman. “I wanted to see how a player performs after missing two matches. We tried almost everything in every department. This bunch of players is nearly ready for the next World Cup.”
Litton also reflected on how the team turned the series around despite early setbacks. He acknowledged the pressure of the first match but praised the energy and determination displayed afterward. “We fought back strongly. There are many positive signs,” he said.
Fielding — often considered one of Bangladesh’s weaker areas — emerged as a bright spot during the series. “We are not known as a good fielding unit, but we took some brilliant catches. The improvement is clear,” Litton added.
According to the skipper, the experience gained from playing a high volume of T20 matches throughout the year has helped players become more mature. He credited both the coaching staff and the squad’s consistency since the Asia Cup for shaping a stable core group.
Looking ahead, Litton stressed the importance of player fitness as the Bangladesh Premier League approaches, hoping domestic performances translate into national success. “I’m not worried about individual form, only injuries. We will pray that everyone stays healthy in the coming months,” he said.
Bangladesh will compete in Group C at the 2026 T20 World Cup, facing England, West Indies, Nepal, and Italy. The Tigers begin their campaign on February 7, opening day of the tournament, with a high-profile clash against West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
