Actress says Dennis Rodman’s partying lifestyle and heavy drinking became too difficult to manage despite their “real love.”
Carmen Electra has opened up about the reason behind her split from former NBA star Dennis Rodman, describing their relationship as passionate but ultimately unsustainable.
Speaking during an appearance on the Legally Goff podcast, the 54-year-old actress reflected on Rodman’s lifestyle and the emotional strain it placed on her during their marriage.
“He was always like the pied piper of the party,” Electra said while discussing the former basketball player’s larger-than-life personality.
The actress said the couple shared many enjoyable experiences together despite the challenges.
“We had a lot of fun together. That was my favorite part of being around Dennis,” she said. “But, you know, we only get to see the part of Dennis that the media lets us see, right?”
Electra described Rodman as caring and affectionate, but also acknowledged his unpredictable behavior and heavy drinking.
“He was sensitive and so loving, and then he’s wild and he’s drinking,” she added.
According to Electra, the constant partying eventually became overwhelming.
“It was just too hard to continue to keep up with him and his friends,” she said.
The former Baywatch star also recalled a moment when she realized the relationship was affecting her health and wellbeing.
“I remember looking at myself in the mirror. I was at home and I didn’t recognize myself,” Electra said. “I had bags under my eyes. My face was puffy. And I’m in my 20s, you know, and I thought like, it’s got to stop.”
She said reading self-help books helped her gain clarity and eventually decide to leave the relationship.
“I got to get away from him because what good is going to come out of this,” she recalled thinking at the time.
Despite the breakup, Electra emphasized that the relationship was genuine and not driven by publicity.
“It was real love,” she said. “It wasn’t a made-up story. It wasn’t a publicity stunt. It was real love. And you know, it’s sad, but it had to end.”
Electra and Rodman officially separated in April 1999 following a highly publicized relationship.
