Islamabad, November 23, 2025 – The delegation, led by Chairman Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman, included Patron-in-Chief Abdul Latif Malik, and senior members Usman Ashraf, Shahid Hassan Sheikh, Naeem Khokhar, and Muhammad Naeem Sajid, according to a press release.
During the meeting, the delegation presented a detailed briefing on the difficulties faced by handmade carpet exporters, particularly in documentation, transaction processing, and compliance with updated banking procedures. They urged the SBP to:
• Issue clear instructions to all commercial banks
• Conduct awareness sessions on new export regulations
• Train bank staff so exporters and financial institutions operate on the same page
The SBP officials assured the delegation that the central bank would take “every possible step” to resolve the issues raised, promising improved coordination with commercial banks to facilitate export-related processes.
Industry leadership reviews strategy to revive carpet exports
Meanwhile, at a separate review meeting held at the PCMA office, Chairman Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman and Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmad reaffirmed the association’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s handmade carpet sector—an industry known globally for craftsmanship but currently facing rising production costs and skilled-labour shortages.
Discussions also covered problems related to the Torkham border, which continues to impact logistics and timely shipment of export consignments.
Call for government support and long-term export strategy
PCMA office-bearers emphasized the need for strong government support to revitalize the sector. They recommended:
• Reducing production costs through policy incentives
• Ensuring availability of skilled artisans
• Providing freight subsidies to remain competitive internationally
Upcoming international exhibitions seen as key opportunity
The association revealed that three major international exhibitions are scheduled for next year. Leadership described these events as a “golden opportunity” for Pakistan’s handmade carpet industry to boost global outreach, secure new buyers, and expand export markets.
Chairman Atiq-ur-Rehman and Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmad stressed the importance of beginning preparations immediately to maximize participation and showcase Pakistan’s craftsmanship on the world stage.
