As raging wildfires devastate parts of California, numerous celebrities have been forced to evacuate their homes, highlighting the widespread impact of the disaster.
Eugene Levy, honorary mayor of Pacific Palisades, recounted his harrowing escape to the Los Angeles Times on January 7. “The smoke looked pretty black and intense over Temescal Canyon,” the Schitt’s Creek star shared. “I couldn’t see any flames, but the smoke was very dark.” Stuck in traffic, Levy was among many fleeing the fire-ravaged area.
Actor Steve Guttenberg of Police Academy fame was seen helping to clear abandoned vehicles from Palisades Drive. Speaking to KTLA 5, Guttenberg urged residents leaving cars behind to leave their keys inside to facilitate movement and allow fire trucks to pass. “There are people stuck up there, and we’re trying to clear Palisades Drive,” he explained. Guttenberg revealed that friends in the area were unable to evacuate due to gridlock.
Actress Mandy Moore, known for her role in This Is Us, also evacuated with her family. Sharing updates on her Instagram Story, Moore expressed gratitude for friends who provided shelter. “Trying to shield the kids from the immense sadness and worry I feel. Praying for everyone in our beautiful city,” she wrote, uncertain if her home had survived the fire.
Actor James Woods evacuated successfully but later posted on X that all the smoke detectors in his house had activated. “It feels like losing a loved one,” the Hercules star lamented.
Star Wars legend Mark Hamill shared that he fled Malibu at the last minute, eventually reaching his daughter Chelsea’s home in Hollywood. Meanwhile, TMZ reported that Ben Affleck evacuated and sought refuge at ex-wife Jennifer Garner’s nearby residence. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may also evacuate their Montecito home, where they live with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, according to Page Six.
California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared states of emergency to address the crisis. “We thank the hundreds of brave firefighters and first responders who have been battling this blaze tirelessly,” Mayor Bass said.
The wildfires have left communities devastated, with many awaiting news of their homes while California braces for continued challenges.
