Cell phone import in Pakistan plunges by 68%

ISLAMABAD: During the first eight months of the current fiscal year (2022-23), there has been a 68.29 percent decrease in the import of cell phones into the country compared to the same period last year.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan imported mobile phones worth US $447.855 million during July-February (2022-23), which is a decline of 68.29 percent compared to the imports of US $1412.445 million during the same period in the previous fiscal year (2021-22).

During February 2023, the import of mobile phones on a year-to-year basis also decreased by 76.73 percent when compared to the same month of the previous year.

In February 2023, the import of mobile phones into the country was recorded at $33.054 million, whereas in February 2022, the exports of mobile phones were valued at $142.033 million.

As per the available data, during February 2023, the imports of mobile phones also witnessed a decrease of 36.39 percent on a month-on-month basis, as compared to the imports of US $51.960 million during January 2023.
