CEO K-Electric resigns soon after getting clearance in harassment case

Karachi, February 6, 2026 — In a major corporate development, K-Electric on Friday confirmed that its Chief Executive Officer, Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi, has resigned from his position shortly after receiving clearance in a high-profile harassment case.

In an official communication to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the power utility stated: “Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi has tendered his resignation from the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of K-Electric Limited.” The announcement came just days after the Governor of Sindh set aside the Provincial Ombudsman’s order issued against the CEO in a women harassment case.

The Governor of Sindh, exercising powers under Section 9 of the Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2010, officially nullified the Ombudsman’s order dated July 31, 2025, which had directed the removal of the CEO from service and imposed a financial penalty. This decision followed a prolonged legal process that began with a complaint filed in November 2020 by a former K-Electric employee.

The case originated after the employee’s termination in October 2020 on performance-related grounds, followed by harassment allegations against the CEO, two employees, and a former director. While the other accused were later cleared, the CEO challenged the Ombudsman’s order through a representation before the Governor of Sindh and a constitutional petition in the High Court of Sindh, which suspended the order’s implementation.

K-Electric informed the PSX that it has not yet received the official copy of the Governor’s decision and will determine the appropriate course of action after legal review. The company reaffirmed its commitment to workplace safety, corporate governance, and compliance with harassment laws.

The resignation, coming immediately after legal clearance, marks a significant moment in one of Pakistan’s most closely followed corporate legal cases, raising questions about leadership transition and governance at the country’s largest power utility.
