Beijing, December 25, 2025 — The Chinese government has expressed hope that all relevant parties will reach a balanced and lawful solution regarding the future operations of TikTok, in line with Chinese laws and regulations, while safeguarding the legitimate interests of all sides involved.

Speaking at a regular press briefing on Thursday, He Yongqian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce, responded to media reports suggesting that TikTok has entered into agreements with three investors to establish a new joint venture in the United States to ensure the platform’s continued operations in the country.

The spokesperson noted that the issue of TikTok was discussed under the broader framework of cooperation between China and the United States. He said the economic and trade teams of both countries had previously reached a basic framework consensus on properly addressing matters such as TikTok through dialogue and cooperation. This understanding was based on the important consensus achieved during a recent phone conversation between the leaders of China and the United States.

He emphasized that any resolution should be pursued on the principles of mutual respect and equal consultation, and should carefully balance national security concerns with commercial interests. According to the spokesperson, China hopes the United States will work constructively with Beijing to move the process forward and honor its relevant commitments.

The Ministry of Commerce also urged the U.S. government to provide a fair, open, transparent, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises operating in the United States. Ensuring such conditions, the spokesperson said, is essential for the continuous and stable operation of Chinese companies and for fostering investor confidence.

China reaffirmed that maintaining stable, healthy, and sustainable China-U.S. economic and trade relations remains a shared objective, and expressed optimism that cooperation on issues like TikTok can contribute positively to broader bilateral ties.
