Beijing, August 16, 2025 – Authorities in China have renewed multiple weather alerts as heavy rainfall and related hazards continue to threaten several regions of the country.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Saturday issued a blue weather alert for rainstorms, warning of intense downpours expected from Saturday through Sunday across parts of Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong, Hebei, Henan, Sichuan, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan provinces.

Alongside the rainstorm warning, the Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) jointly issued a yellow weather alert for potential mountain torrents. The advisory highlighted that certain areas of Shandong and Hainan face a relatively high risk of flash flooding and related incidents due to saturated soil and swollen rivers.

Additionally, the Ministry of Natural Resources, together with the CMA, raised concerns about geological disaster risks. A yellow alert was issued for parts of Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Yunnan, and Shaanxi, where continuous rainfall may trigger landslides, mudslides, and rockfalls.

Meanwhile, the CMA announced that it had lowered its emergency response level for rainstorm-related disasters from Level-III to Level-IV on Saturday evening, reflecting slight improvements in some regions, though the threat remains.

Officials urged local governments to step up precautionary measures, including monitoring vulnerable slopes, reinforcing infrastructure, and preparing for possible evacuations.

China operates a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. Similarly, its emergency response mechanism ranks Level I as the most critical.
