Jiangsu Ankura Intelligent Electric will convert four 66kV grid stations to 132kV under a $40m ADB-funded power modernisation project.
Chinese firm M/s Jiangsu Ankura Intelligent Electric Co., Ltd. has secured an $11.728 million contract under a $40 million Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded power project to upgrade four 66kV grid stations of Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) to 132kV.
The project is aimed at strengthening the electricity transmission network in Sindh and improving the capacity and reliability of SEPCO’s power system.
The contract, signed on February 4, 2026, covers the conversion of grid stations at Radhan, Thari Mir Wah, Nara-II and Padidan under package SEPCO-EPC-001.
According to project documents, the contract comprises a foreign-currency component of $6.612 million and a local-currency component of Rs1,432.444 million.
ADB-funded SEPCO modernisation programme
The grid-station upgrade forms part of a broader SEPCO investment programme financed through ADB Loan No. 4567-PAK, with a total loan amount of $40 million.
Implementation of the project is already under way, with the advance payment for the foreign-currency component having been disbursed.
Project activities currently include letter of credit processing, design submissions and soil investigations, according to the project documents.
The programme is designed to modernise several parts of SEPCO’s electricity distribution network and improve operational efficiency.
1,200 APMS units and 50,000 smart meters
The ADB-funded programme includes several other components, including the procurement of 1,200 Advanced Power Management System (APMS) units.
It also includes an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project covering 50,000 units, as well as the bifurcation of 40 11kV feeders.
The programme further provides for project implementation consultancy services for the grid-station component.
Separate consultancy services will also cover the AMI, APMS and 11kV feeder bifurcation projects.
Four SEPCO stations to be upgraded
The conversion of the four grid stations from 66kV to 132kV is expected to increase network capacity and improve the reliability of electricity transmission in areas served by SEPCO.
The project is part of the utility’s wider programme to modernise its grid and distribution infrastructure.
With work already under way on the contract, the upgrade is expected to contribute to a stronger and more efficient power network in Sindh while supporting SEPCO’s broader efforts to improve electricity supply infrastructure.
