The young actor says working alongside Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor and Maisy Stella helped create an authentic family dynamic on screen.
Christian Convery has opened up about the emotional challenges of filming The End of Oak Street, revealing that while some days on set were enjoyable, others left the cast emotionally drained.
In an interview with People, Convery said scenes depicting the Platt family enjoying ordinary moments were particularly fun, while sequences involving prolonged emotional turmoil could become exhausting.
“On the days that we were being a normal family … those days were super fun. But then you get to a whole week of just emotional turmoil. It can get pretty emotionally exhausting,” Convery said.
The sci-fi thriller stars Convery alongside Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella and Anne Hathaway, who plays his mother. The film follows the Platt family after their neighbourhood is mysteriously displaced, forcing them to work together to survive in an unfamiliar environment.
Convery said the demanding nature of the production helped the actors deliver more authentic performances because they were placed in physical and emotional situations similar to those experienced by their characters.
He also credited the cast’s natural chemistry for helping them portray a believable family. According to Convery, there was no special formula for building their relationship, as the actors immediately connected when they met.
Table reads, preparation sessions and regular conversations also helped the cast understand their characters and dynamics. Convery said members of the cast would also spend time together outside filming, helping strengthen their bond.

Convery said working with Hathaway was particularly meaningful because he had admired her career for years.
He admitted feeling nervous initially but praised Hathaway for treating him like any other professional actor. Keeping their on-screen relationship separate from their real-life relationship as co-workers helped him learn from the experienced actress, he said.
The young actor also reflected on his career, revealing that he began working at the age of six. He identified his role as the lead in Sweet Tooth, which he filmed over five years in New Zealand, as a major turning point.
Convery said the experience encouraged him to study cinema, acting and directing more seriously while learning from established filmmakers and performers.
He added that he remains focused on improving his craft and believes actors should remain grounded while continuing to learn.
The End of Oak Street, directed by David Robert Mitchell, was released in cinemas on August 14, 2026.
