Renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan has officially been elected as the new President of the Directors Guild of America (DGA), marking a historic milestone in his illustrious career.
The election was held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, during the DGA’s biennial national convention, where 167 delegates cast votes on behalf of members across the United States.
The Directors Guild of America is a leading entertainment guild that represents the professional interests of film and television directors in the U.S. and internationally. By electing Nolan, the Guild has chosen one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers to guide its members through a rapidly evolving industry landscape.
Nolan takes over from Lesli Linka Glatter, who served as DGA President for two consecutive terms after being first elected in 2021. Glatter’s leadership is credited with strengthening the Guild during a period of significant industry change.
Nolan, a longtime member of the Guild, already serves on its national board of directors and has actively contributed to supporting creative and economic protections for filmmakers. Following his election, he expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in him by his peers.
“To be elected President of the Directors Guild of America is one of the greatest honors of my career,” Nolan said in an official statement. “Our industry is experiencing tremendous change, and I thank the Guild’s membership for entrusting me with this responsibility. I also want to thank President Glatter for her leadership over the past four years.”
He further emphasized his commitment to working with Glatter and the newly elected board to secure vital creative and financial protections for members as the entertainment sector adapts to new challenges and opportunities.
Nolan’s election comes at a high point in his career. Earlier this year, he won two Academy Awards for his 2023 blockbuster Oppenheimer. He is currently directing The Odyssey, an epic adaptation set to be released by Universal Pictures in July 2026.
With his new leadership role, Christopher Nolan is set to influence not only the future of cinema through his films but also the broader creative community through the DGA.
