Clouds to Envelop Islamabad Amid Rainy Forecast

Monsoon Rainfall

Islamabad, January 5, 2025 – Islamabad, the scenic capital of Pakistan, is bracing for cloudy skies and a spell of rain over the next two days, as per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The city is expected to experience partly cloudy conditions with intermittent rain starting Sunday morning, January 5, extending into the evening of January 6, 2025.

The PMD forecasts that Sunday will bring partly cloudy and cold weather to Islamabad and its surroundings, with the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms during the evening and night hours. A frontal weather system currently affecting the upper regions of the country is responsible for this change and is expected to persist through Monday.

On a national level, the weather system will also bring rain and snowfall to various regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat. The Potohar region, which encompasses Islamabad, and northeastern Punjab are also expected to experience rain and thunderstorms at isolated spots.

Sunday’s Forecast for Islamabad and Beyond

Islamabad is set to remain under partly cloudy skies for most of Sunday, with the possibility of rain creating a chilly yet refreshing ambiance. Surrounding regions will experience similar conditions, while areas like upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir will see rain mixed with snowfall. Murree and Galliyat are also expected to receive significant snowfall, adding to their winter charm. Dense fog is likely to affect plains in Punjab and upper Sindh during nighttime.

Monday’s Outlook

The weather in Islamabad on Monday will remain cloudy, with the potential for evening rain. Other parts of northern Pakistan, such as Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat, will continue to see rain and snow, while Punjab and Sindh plains are forecasted to deal with moderate to dense fog.

Recent Weather Developments

The last 24 hours in Islamabad and other regions saw sporadic rain and snowfall in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. While Islamabad experienced cold and partly cloudy weather, areas like Chitral received heavy rain and snowfall. The PMD recorded 11 inches of snow in Chitral, with Kalam and Drosh receiving two inches each.

As the weather system brings cooler conditions and scenic winter rains, residents of Islamabad are advised to dress warmly and remain cautious of slippery roads. With fog and rain likely to persist, travelers should plan accordingly to ensure safety.
