KARACHI, February 7, 2026 – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has assured shopkeepers affected by the Gul Plaza incident that the government, in collaboration with the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), is working to provide full compensation within two months. The initiative aims to enable shopkeepers to rebuild inventories and restart their businesses promptly.

Speaking at the 21st My Karachi – Oasis of Harmony Exhibition on Friday, the Chief Minister confirmed that temporary locations have been identified for affected shopkeepers to operate until the reconstruction of Gul Plaza is complete. He emphasized that no rent will be charged for these interim shops, with only basic maintenance costs to be borne by the shopkeepers.

Murad Ali Shah also announced that the Sindh Government is providing Rs. 10 million to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident, while shopkeepers will receive Rs. 500,000 each as immediate relief. The reconstructed Gul Plaza will retain the same number of shops and will be completed in a safer and modernized structure within two years.

The Chief Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to improve Karachi’s infrastructure, noting Rs. 13 billion allocated for road and drainage projects, improvements in industrial estates with nearly Rs. 10 billion provided to associations, and initiatives like the K-IV water project and desalination plans to address the city’s water needs.

Officials from Sindh Government, KCCI, and the business community, including Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala and President KCCI Rehan Hanif, praised the initiatives while stressing fire safety, infrastructure upgrades, and proactive disaster prevention measures in commercial and industrial areas.
