The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has officially released the key filing and payment deadlines for the 2025 tax year, helping Canadians prepare ahead for the upcoming tax season.
The announcement includes important dates for filing individual and self-employed tax returns, making payments, and contributing to registered savings plans.
According to the CRA, the deadline to contribute to a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Pooled Registered Pension Plan (PRPP), or Supplemental Pension Plan (SPP) for the 2025 tax year is March 2, 2026. Contributions made by this date can still be claimed on the 2025 income tax return, potentially reducing taxable income.
The deadline to file 2025 income tax returns for most Canadians is April 30, 2026, which is also the final day to make tax payments without incurring interest or penalties. For individuals who are self-employed, or whose spouse or common-law partner is self-employed, the filing deadline is extended to June 15, 2026, though any taxes owed must still be paid by April 30, 2026.
The CRA encourages taxpayers to file early and use online services such as My Account and NETFILE for faster processing and direct deposit of refunds. Canadians can also track their credit and benefit payments through CRA’s digital tools to stay updated.
