Islamabad, October 6, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an advisory urging fishermen to avoid venturing into the deep sea as Cyclone SHAKHTI continues to churn over the west-central and adjoining northwest
Arabian Sea. Despite showing signs of weakening, Cyclone SHAKHTI still poses risks due to high waves and strong winds in the open sea.
According to the latest PMD report, Cyclone SHAKHTI remained nearly stationary, positioned around Latitude 19.6°N and Longitude 60.5°E — approximately 900 kilometers southwest of Karachi. The system is expected to drift east-southeastward and gradually weaken into a depression within the next 12 hours.
The PMD has cautioned that sea conditions will remain rough to very rough, with squally winds blowing at 45–55 km/h, gusting up to 65 km/h. Near the cyclone’s center, gale-force winds could still reach 70–80 km/h, with gusts up to 90 km/h before gradually subsiding.
Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the deep sea until the morning of October 7, when conditions are expected to improve. The PMD’s Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi continues to closely monitor the progress of Cyclone SHAKHTI and will issue timely updates as the system weakens further.
Authorities and coastal communities are urged to stay alert, follow PMD advisories, and take precautionary measures to ensure safety during the storm’s final stages.
