Pakistan Weather

Karachi, October 6, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that Cyclone SHAKHTI has further weakened over the Arabian Sea.

According to the latest PMD update issued on Monday, the severe cyclonic storm SHAKHTI over the west-central and adjoining northwest Arabian Sea has downgraded into a cyclonic storm over the past six hours.

As of 11:00 AM, Cyclone SHAKHTI was centered near Latitude 19.6°N and Longitude 60.4°E, approximately 910 km southwest of Karachi. The system is expected to move east-southeastward and weaken into a depression within the next 24 hours. Under its influence, isolated light rainfall is likely in the coastal districts of Sindh and Balochistan today.

Sea conditions around the Sindh coast remain high to very rough, accompanied by squally winds ranging between 70 to 90 km/h, gusting up to 100 km/h. Fishermen have been strictly advised to avoid venturing into the open sea until October 7, as conditions are forecast to gradually improve thereafter.

PMD also reported that gale-force winds around the storm’s center will gradually decrease from 80–90 km/h to 45–55 km/h over the next 24 hours. Sea conditions will shift from very high to moderate as Cyclone SHAKHTI continues to lose intensity.

The PMD’s Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi remains vigilant and will continue to issue regular updates. Authorities and residents are urged to stay informed through official advisories.
