Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Daniel Kaluuya is officially bringing Spider-Punk back to the big screen, announcing that he is developing a standalone animated movie for the fan-favorite character. The update came during Deadline’s Red Sea Studio event at the Red Sea International Film Festival.

Kaluuya, who voiced the rebellious hero in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, revealed that he and co-writer Ajon Singh are currently completing the first draft of the script. He credited the overwhelming fan response to Spider-Punk as the driving force behind the new project.

The character—an alternate version of Hobie Brown and a variant of Spider-Man—is also expected to return in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, Kaluuya avoided giving away plot specifics or potential crossovers, saying only that the new film will deliver the same heart, energy and attitude that made Spider-Punk an instant standout.

The Oscar-winning actor also praised Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for their mentorship. He said their focus on storytelling and character relationships has deeply shaped his approach. “Those Spider-Verse films speak to me. I was so inspired by them,” he shared.

During the conversation, Kaluuya also addressed Hollywood’s shifting landscape, including the massive Warner Bros. Discovery–Netflix $82.7 billion deal. He noted that such industry shake-ups are inevitable but won’t distract him from telling meaningful stories.

“I’m not prescribing to this anxiety. You’ve just got to make something undeniable that speaks to the audience,” he said, emphasizing the importance of authenticity in filmmaking.

Kaluuya expressed a continued passion for theatrical experiences and encouraged filmmakers to follow their creative instincts. “Whatever it is, I’m here to tell my truth and execute that truth and bring the idea out,” he added.

With Kaluuya at the helm, fans can expect Spider-Punk’s next adventure to remain bold, fun and full of heart—staying true to the spirit of the beloved Spider-Verse franchise.
