Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has ordered fuel station payments to be settled within 24 hours as Pakistan prepares to roll out the petrol relief scheme nationwide.
ISLAMABAD, September 15, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has directed that payments to fuel stations under the Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme be settled within 24 hours through the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
He also instructed provincial authorities to complete district-level outreach to ensure the seamless delivery of fuel relief to eligible beneficiaries.
The directives were issued during the ninth meeting of the National Steering Committee on Fuel Subsidy, chaired by Dar to review the nationwide rollout of the Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme, according to a news release issued by the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office.
Following the successful completion of the Islamabad pilot programme, the committee finalised arrangements for the nationwide launch of the scheme.
Fuel relief scheme expands nationwide
The scheme covers motorcycles, three-wheelers and vehicles up to 800cc, including loaders and pick-ups. The entire cost of the fuel subsidy will be borne by the federal government.
Registration for the scheme is now open nationwide through SMS to 9771, allowing eligible citizens to register for the relief programme.
The redemption of fuel tokens will begin at midnight between Wednesday and Thursday, enabling registered beneficiaries to obtain subsidised fuel under the scheme.
Dar directed the relevant authorities to ensure that payments to participating fuel stations are processed and settled through the SBP within 24 hours.
He also instructed provincial administrations to complete district-level outreach activities so that eligible citizens are properly informed about registration and fuel redemption procedures.
The measures are intended to ensure the smooth implementation of the scheme, minimise delays in payments to fuel stations and facilitate the timely delivery of subsidised petrol to beneficiaries.
Officials review implementation arrangements
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, federal secretaries for Petroleum and IT and Telecommunication, Chairman OGRA and Chairman PTA.
Chief Secretaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, Additional Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and senior officials from Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad Capital Territory and other federal and provincial departments also participated.
The committee’s review follows the launch of the scheme’s pilot phase in Islamabad and marks the transition to nationwide implementation of the government’s fuel subsidy programme.
