Darren Bravo Takes Break from International Cricket

Experienced West Indies middle-order batsman Darren Bravo has opted to take a hiatus from international cricket after being excluded from the upcoming ODI series against England.

The left-handed batter, who last participated in international matches in February 2022, revealed his decision on social media.

Bravo, with a distinguished international career spanning over 14 years, has represented West Indies in 200 games. In Test cricket, he boasts 3538 runs at an average of 36.47 with eight centuries, while in ODIs, he has accumulated 3109 runs at an average approaching 30, including four centuries.

Despite his outstanding performance in the Super50 Cup 2023, where he scored 416 runs at an impressive average of 83.2 and a strike rate of 92.03, Bravo was not selected for the England series.

The selection panel prioritized younger players, focusing on building a squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

Addressing his decision on Instagram, Bravo expressed his need for time to contemplate his future in cricket. He acknowledged the challenges of maintaining the necessary energy, passion, commitment, and discipline at this stage of his career.

Bravo emphasized his disappointment with the lack of communication from the selectors, stating, “Without any level of communication, I’ve been left in a very dark place.” Despite stepping back, he clarified that this isn’t a complete withdrawal from international cricket, saying, “I’m not giving up but I believe it’s best to step away just for a bit and maybe make some room for a young and upcoming talent.”

The West Indies are scheduled to face England in a home white-ball tour starting on 3 December, featuring three ODIs and five T20Is.
