Uganda’s Stunning Five-Wicket Win in T20 Qualifier

Uganda emerged triumphant against Zimbabwe, clinching a five-wicket victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier.

Despite being ranked 23rd on the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, Uganda showcased their prowess by outperforming the higher-ranked Zimbabwean team.

This victory propelled Uganda to the third position on the points table, trailing behind leaders Namibia and second-placed Kenya.

Zimbabwe, the sole Test-playing nation in the competition, now sits in fourth place with two points, requiring favorable outcomes in other matches to keep their T20 World Cup qualification hopes alive.

Zimbabwe, batting first, faced challenges as they lost wickets consistently. Captain Sikandar Raza stood out with the highest score of 48*, while Uganda’s Dinesh Nakrani shone with a remarkable bowling performance, securing figures of 3/14.

During the chase, Uganda’s Riazat Ali Shah (42) and Alpesh Ramjani (40) led the charge. They successfully chased down Zimbabwe’s total in the 19th over, securing victory with five wickets in hand.

This match marked Uganda’s first encounter with a Full Member in T20Is, and their impressive performance resulted in a notable five-wicket win.

With only the top two teams from the Region Qualifier earning a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024, Uganda’s triumph puts them in contention for a coveted spot on the global stage.
