Deadline extended for June sales tax return to August 8

FBR launches IRIS 2.0

Islamabad, August 5, 2025 – In response to mounting complaints from taxpayers and consultants, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially extended the deadline for filing the sales tax return for the month of June 2025 until August 8, 2025.

A notification issued on Tuesday confirms that the new deadline applies to both sales tax and federal excise returns for the tax period of June 2025. Originally due on July 18, the date was earlier extended to August 4, but ongoing technical difficulties with the online filing portal prompted the FBR to grant an additional extension.

According to the FBR, this extension is conditional upon the sales tax liability having already been deposited within the original due date. Only those who have paid their dues on time will benefit from the extended return filing window.

The need for an extended deadline was driven by technical glitches in the newly upgraded IRIS system. Tax professionals and businesses reported significant trouble accessing the portal, particularly due to the recently introduced QR code scanning requirement for login verification. This added layer of security, while intended to enhance the system’s integrity, inadvertently created access issues for many users.

The FBR’s decision to accommodate these concerns by extending the sales tax filing deadline is expected to ease pressure on filers and provide sufficient time for compliance.
