Demi Moore embraces aging as a ‘gift,’ reflects on Hollywood

Demi Moore recently offered a refreshing and empowering perspective on aging during her appearance at the TIME100 Summit on April 23. Speaking with grace and honesty, the iconic actress addressed the evolving role of older women in Hollywood and the broader misconceptions surrounding age.

During the discussion, Demi responded to a question about the increased recognition of women in their 50s, 60s, and 70s in the entertainment industry. She acknowledged that while progress is being made, there’s still more to be done. “Things are very different now than they were even a couple of decades ago,” Moore said. “There used to be this idea that life — especially for women — slowed down or ended at a certain point. But the truth is, we’re simply evolving. It’s not the end.”

Demi Moore, now 62, went on to make a powerful distinction between aging and being old. “I’ve been thinking a lot about how ageing and being old aren’t the same. We’ve confused the two,” she explained. “Ageing is actually a tremendous gift, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Reflecting on her own past, Moore said, “You couldn’t pay me to go back to being 21. Sure, it might sound glamorous, but for me, it was a really painful time. I’m now in a peaceful space of acceptance and freedom — and that’s something I cherish.”

Demi also touched on her experience during awards season, particularly losing out on an Oscar after being dubbed a frontrunner. “Would winning have been nice? Of course,” said Moore. “But I didn’t win, and that’s okay. I don’t see it as a failure. I really believe everything in life is happening for me, not to me.”

Moore concluded her thoughtful segment by emphasizing that while disappointment is natural, the key message is persistence. “The work isn’t finished yet,” Demi Moore added. “There’s more to tell, more to show, and more space to create — regardless of age.”
