DFML Starts Electric Vehicle Production After EDB Approval

Karachi, September 10, 2024 – Dewan Farooque Motors Limited (DFML) has officially commenced the production of electric vehicles (EVs) following the green light from the Engineering Development Board (EDB).

This significant milestone comes after the EDB’s physical verification of the company’s assembly plant facilities, marking a pivotal moment for the local EV industry.

DFML shared the news in a communication to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday. The company confirmed that the EDB had approved the production line after conducting a thorough inspection of the manufacturing facilities belonging to Eco-Green Motors Limited (EGML). The facilities, located at DFML’s assembly plant, have met the required standards to begin operations.

“Following the approval, the production of electric vehicles has now commenced at the assembly plant under the toll manufacturing agreement with the associated company EGML,” DFML said in the statement. The company’s communication highlights a strategic collaboration with EGML, which will be producing electric cars under the DFML banner.

In a key development earlier this year, DFML had revealed its entry into the EV market through a toll manufacturing agreement with EGML. On May 30, 2024, the company announced that it had partnered with EGML to manufacture its Honri-VE series, which includes models with a driving range of 200 kilometers and 300 kilometers. The agreement effectively positions DFML as a leading player in Pakistan’s evolving EV landscape.

DFML’s move into the EV space is seen as a major step forward for Pakistan’s automotive industry, which has been gradually shifting toward sustainable transportation solutions. The company’s Honri-VE electric vehicle series is expected to cater to the rising demand for eco-friendly alternatives in the local market, aligning with the government’s push for cleaner energy and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.

Industry experts have praised DFML’s entry into EV production, noting that it could pave the way for further investments in the country’s growing EV sector. Pakistan’s government has been actively encouraging local production of electric vehicles through various incentives, as part of a broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and promote green energy initiatives.

With the approval from the EDB, DFML now holds a strong position to capitalize on the demand for electric vehicles. The toll manufacturing agreement with EGML enables DFML to utilize its existing facilities, streamlining production processes and bringing new energy-efficient vehicles to the market more quickly.

As the production lines at DFML’s assembly plant gear up to deliver EVs, this collaboration with EGML represents a significant leap towards the electrification of Pakistan’s automotive industry, promising a cleaner and more sustainable future for the nation’s transportation sector.
