Disney’s Zootopia 2 delivered a record-breaking performance over the Thanksgiving holiday, marking one of the strongest starts ever for an animated film. The highly anticipated sequel, featuring the return of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, dominated Black Friday with an impressive $38.5 million, securing the second-highest Black Friday gross in history—just behind Moana 2’s $54.5 million last year.
The film opened strongly on Wednesday with $39.5 million, and industry projections now estimate more than $158 million across the five-day Thanksgiving frame, again landing just behind Moana 2 for the best holiday debut.
During its first three days of release, Zootopia 2 raked in a massive $233 million globally, including $97.7 million in domestic earnings and $135.3 million from international markets.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film achieved a staggering $94 million two-day haul in China, marking the biggest single-day gross ever for a Hollywood release in the country—surpassing Avengers: Endgame.
The sequel is far outpacing the original film’s performance. While the first Zootopia took 12 days to reach $154 million, the sequel accomplished this in under half the time. Global estimates now predict the film will surpass $525 million by the end of the weekend, exceeding earlier forecasts of $500 million.
Critics and audiences are enthusiastically backing the movie, which boasts an A CinemaScore and a 95% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Beyond the U.S. holiday frame, Zootopia 2 has scored the top opening day of 2025 in key European markets including France, Germany, and Italy, and it is also performing strongly in South Korea.
The film follows another high-energy adventure with optimistic rabbit Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and clever fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), now operating as official police partners under Chief Bogo (Idris Elba). Their latest mission involves tracking down a mysterious snake character voiced by Ke Huy Quan, adding fresh intrigue to the beloved franchise.
